Anthony Rogal Squash Report - Southgate, December 28/30th 2005
I entered the Southgate Squash Junior Open Tournament. When I looked at the sheet for who versus who I thought I would lose the first game and then go into the plate and lose the quarter finals of the plate because lots of good players entered it.
In the first round I was going to play Ashil Shah, ranked number one in Middlesex under 11’s. I travelled to the Southgate Squash club and was nervous that I might lose both matches. As soon as I got into the squash club I had to play my first game against Ashil Shah. I lost the first game 11-2 and then the second game 11-5. All the first round losers would go into the Plate.
I went in to the quarter final of the Plate which I won very easily. I won 11-1 in the first game and 11-0 in the second. Now I was in to the semi-finals of the plate which I won quite easily as well. I won the first game 11-3 and 11-2 in the second game. I was really happy when I won the semi-final. It was greater than my target. In the final I now had to play George Fulton. I went on to the court with my trainer and my Dad watching. When we started the first game it was really close and you never knew who was going to win. In this first game it got to 10-all and it was my serve. Very unfortunately I served out, so George won the first game and I was very annoyed with myself. In the second game, it was quite close but not as close and George Fulton won the final of the plate 11-7.
We came down for the Prize Giving (for the people who got through to the final). I was given a medal by Alison Waters, the World number 12 and a special towel for the Runner-Up of the Plate Final. I felt very proud. Part of my prize was to watch Alison Waters play a presentation match against another man. The deep accurate tight shots were amazingly good.
